Facebook Content: 30+ Damn Great Ideas!

Businesses large and small hear it all the time now – you have to get a good Facebook fan page going. And that is certainly true. Although some business owners still dismiss Facebook as a lightweight platform filled with silly social games and chit chat the figures are getting harder for any business owner to ignore. Consider this:

eBook: Facebook Content: 30+ Damn Great Ideas!

  1. 1 in every 13 people on Earth have a Facebook page.
  2. In just 20 minutes 1,000,000 links are shared on Facebook, 1,323,000 photographs are tagged, 1,851,000 status updates are posted and 1,587,000 comments are left.
  3. 48% of the 18-34 age group check Facebook when they first wake up.
  4. The average Facebook user is connected to 80 groups or fan pages
  5. The average Facebook user has 130 friends they interact with regularly

These are just a few of the rather mind blowing figures that Facebook shares on a regular basis. The main point is though that by having a Facebook fan page your company has the chance to interact with your clients, customers and target market more effectively than ever before.

Where most people come unstuck is after they have built a nice looking Facebook page and have begun to attract those all important likes they simply do not know what to post in order to keep the fans they have engaged and interested as well as to attract new fans to grow their presence on Facebook.

In this e book we offer you more than thirty easy to follow suggestions for Facebook content that you can use to keep your business’ fan page fresh and interesting:

World’s Largest LinkedIn Group Breaks the 700,000 Member Mark

Press Release

New York, NY, February 27, 2012

The number of LinkedIn Groups continues to expand dramatically and the size of individual Groups are poised to reach the 1,000,000 Member mark soon.  WireWalkersVA (http://wirewalkersva.com/) announced that their Group – ‘Job Openings, Job Leads and Job Connections!’ – has just exceeded the 700,000+ Member mark.  It is poised to surpass the 1,000,000 Member milestone before the end of this year.

LinkedIn is the premier social networking site for professionals that was founded in 1993 and currently boasts well over 150 million users.  LinkedIn Groups can be created by any Member and like minded members can join any Group they wish to based on their desired affiliations, interests and goals.  LinkedIn Groups serve the important function of allowing members to discuss and network in a professional setting with peers.  It also serves as an important vehicle whereby Members can promote their interests and/or seek opportunities.

As LinkedIn has grown dramatically in size and scale, individual Members have found that LinkedIn Groups are the premiere place to communicate with one’s professional peers – and, the number of individuals both creating and joining Groups has increased dramatically.  Currently, there are over 1,212,244 Groups on LinkedIn, a substantial increase from just a year earlier.  The largest Groups which had about 200,000 Members a year ago now have over 700,000.

The ‘Job Openings, Job Leads and Job Connections!’ Group is a career and job based Group that has seen unprecedented growth and popularity since its inception 2 years ago on Memorial Day, May 25th, 2009.  The Group focuses on providing its Members with career, networking and job opportunities.

The Group provides 20 Subgroups for Members to further target themselves – broken down either by geographic region, industry, occupation or special interest.  These Subgroups themselves are many of the largest on LinkedIn.

As the Group has grown, it has become a central recruiting destination for recruiters, employers and human resources professionals of all types.  In fact, the ‘Human Resources’ Subgroup itself contains over 35,000+ Members.

Although the job market and unemployment figures have been better recently, this has not slowed the growth of the Group.  According to Peter Lee, CEO of WireWalkers, and the Co-Founder of the Group, ‘The Group’s unprecedented growth parallels the unemployment picture but not quite the way you’d think.  Whether the unemployment figures are bad or good, we get a lot of individuals joining to network and to see what opportunities they can find.  One might guess that our Group wouldn’t be as relevant as the unemployment figures have gotten better but that hasn’t proven to be true.  When it’s better, we see more jobs posted in our Group and a lot of new people join to see those postings and make those direct connections with the hiring gatekeepers.’

About WireWalkersVA

WireWalkersVA is based in New York, NY and was started by its CEO, Peter Lee and a dedicated team of business, marketing and social media advisors.  On Memorial Day (May 25th, 2009), they created what has become the World’s Largest LinkedIn Group – ‘Job Openings, Job Leads and Job Connections!’.  The Group is currently the largest of 1,212,244 Groups on LinkedIn and has over 700,003+ Members.  Their website http://wirewalkersva.com/ provides business, marketing and social media resources in the form of free ebooks, podcasts, videos, blogs and business forum.

The Five Biggest Business Blogging Mistakes and How to Fix Them

The Case for Business Blogging

If you have made the decision to begin a blog for your business, or have one in place already, congratulations. You are one of a growing number of people who are realizing just how valuable blogging can be to your business. Study after study has shown that businesses who blog receive more than 50% more traffic on average than businesses that don’t.

eBook: The Five Biggest Business Blogging Mistakes and How to Fix Them A business blog can also be a huge draw for search engine bots as well. Providing fresh original content for them to consume on a regular basis is the easiest and most effective way to attract search engine bots to your website and to keep them coming back, therefore increasing your website’s visibility in search results, attracting even more human visitors.

Business blogging is only effective if you go about it in the right way. The purpose of this ebook is to alert you to some of the of the biggest mistakes that others have made that you should avoid at all costs, and suggestions for fixes for those mistakes if you have already made one of two of them.

Blogging Mistake Number One

Failing to Host Your Blog on Your Website

The Problem: Your blog is hosted on its own URL and is separated from your main website. Or, even worse from a business blogging perspective your company blog is hosted on a free platform like Blogger, WordPress.com or Tumblr.

Why This is a Mistake:

There are a number of different reasons why separate hosting for a business blog is a mistake, and a big one at that:

SEO – A business blog potentially offers a huge SEO boost for your website. Every time you add content to your blog you are creating a reason for the search bots to come back to your website to index it. If it is good, original content that has just the right mix of value to the reader and targeted keywords then the impact on your SERPs rankings can be huge.

If your blog is hosted separately from your website it will be missing out on all those SEO benefits as they will only go to the blogging platform, not your business’ website and therefore your company.

Brand Value – A good business blog builds your company brand, something that is essential to the success of any business, however large or small in the 21st century. If your blog is hosted away from your website you are asking your readers to navigate away from your blog, not to it. Having them type in a url that is completely different than your company’s website is counterproductive from a branding point of view.

And if you host your blog on a free platform then you give the impression that your company is unprofessional and not very serious about what it is doing, both in the eyes of the readers – your current and potential future clients and customers – and the search engines for whom things like url and domain ownership are ranking factors that matter.

The Best Case Scenario

The very best way to integrate your blog into your website is to add it is a subdomain– ie http: blog/xcompany.com or alternately add it as a folder to your main website’s architecture – ie: http:xcompany.com/blog. Either alternative is a good solution and it will give your blog its own “space” while still keeping it on your website so that it can benefit from all adding a blog has to offer.

Which blogging platform you use is a matter of personal choice for the most part. Self hosted WordPress is the most popular paid blogging platform at the moment and it is easy to use and very, very flexible. Joomla is another popular choice and Drupal and Expression Engine are gaining in popularity as well. Take the time to do a little research and figure out which platform works best for you.

Fixing This Mistake If You Have Already Made It:

If you have a blog already that is hosted separately from your main website all is not lost. With a little bit of effort (and maybe the help of a good programmer) you can salvage the content you have and maybe even keep any SEO “juice” you have already generated from it. There are ways to migrate content from both WordPress.com and Blogger to your new self hosted platform but unless you are very confident in the programming realm you may need some help in order to transfer any of that all important SEO juice from your free blog to your website.

Jeremy Lin – New York Knicks – The Asian American Effect

A lot has been written recently about the impact that Jeremy Lin and the Linsanity surrounding his “Linderella” emergence with the New York Knicks has had abroad – not just in Taiwan but in China and the rest of Asia as well.  But maybe his greatest influence has been on the Asian American youth in the US.

Asian Americans are hardly well represented in US sports in general.  But an Asian American in the NBA?  And one who is not abnormally tall (like Yao Ming) but a fairly small for the NBA 6’3”? Who could possibly have imagined that?

Jeremy Lin – New York Knicks – The Asian American Effect image

That may be the real reason why his now obvious basketball skills and smarts went unnoticed for so long by so many basketball experts – including the Knicks themselves when he worked out for them in 2010 – the fact that no one could imagine that a soft spoken, Harvard educated , deeply religious Asian American with a fondness for Fruit Ninja also really had the kind of basketball smarts that are drawing him comparisons to the legendary Steve Nash (including from Amare Stoudamire, Nash’s long time teammate in Phoenix).

Although he was proven human by Lebron James and Co in Miami, Jeremy Lin is proving he is no flash in the pan and is a source of huge pride and hope to young Asian Americans who are used to be labeled as “geeks” and “dorks” before they ever open their mouths.  For all that African American actors have complained about the dearth of great roles for them in Hollywood over the years the Asian Americans who were not named Bruce Lee have been pigeonholed in those kinds of roles for decades.  A kind of subtle racism that is really never discussed.

But now in sports and beyond Jeremy is helping to change a few of those perceptions.  His story – American child of Taiwanese immigrants who developed a love of basketball with his Dad – is one that many young Asian Americans can relate to.  Trying to balance East with West, to please their parents while still fitting in.

So even those who have never watched a basketball game in their lives are tuning in to see Jeremy Lin play or heading to arenas all over the country to watch him play “in person”.  Not necessarily because they are basketball fans but because he’s one of their own, he’s doing something groundbreaking and it makes them proud.

Jeremy Lin – New York Knicks – 100 Million Dollar Man?!

Jeremy Lin – New York Knicks – 100 Million Dollar Man?!

Jeremy Lin – if you haven’t heard – plays basketball professionally for the New York Knicks. He is gathering the mega-attention of basketball aficionados worldwide with the skills he is showing on the basketball court.

Is Jeremy Lin the next 100 million man?  Yes, we think he will be, either now, soon or in a few years time. Tiger Woods was able to make a hundred million annually in his prime – and, may still do so as he makes his comeback. Kobe Bryant currently makes more than 30 million if you include endorsements. Jeremy Lin can make as much or more than these mega-earners as there’s more hype and media attention around him then anyone else right now and he’s even bigger in Asia (especially China and Taiwan), booming economies that love basketball and that don’t mind paying for what they like.

Jeremy Lin - New York Knicks - 100 Million Dollar Man image

Copyright 2012 NBA Media Ventures, LLC | Turner Sports Interactive, Inc. All rights reserved.

He is the newest and most heralded sensation in the NBA – of all time, in all of NBA history.   Since he began his first game as a part of the New York Knicks, he is averaging points and assists averages (and totals) as high or higher than superstars such as Kobe Bryant and Lebron James.

He’s only making a paltry – for NBA superstars at least – $800,000 or so in the NBA right now as a rookie but his salary will zoom up many multiples soon enough.  NBA superstars can easily earn 20 to 25 million a year.  But, that’s just the start of it.

Jeremy Lin’s endorsement potential is humongous.

Let’s face it.  America loves an underdog story.  It’s always been this way and it always will be this way.  The media eats this up and they’re going to keep eating this up.  Meaning, his media exposure is limitless and his brand is building exponentially, not just here but worldwide.

We don’t think Tiger Woods ever garnered this much attention even in his heyday – or, even in his bad days.  And, Tiger Woods certainly no longer has the pristine and loveable image that Jeremy Lin virtually oozes – but, which is also so authentic at the same time.

Again, the money will be in endorsements and given that his brand is limitless, his endorsements can be too.  Is there anything that you think that he couldn’t sell?

Is he the next 100 million man?!  You can bet on it!

Let us know what you think?

Great Content Creation Ideas to Keep Your Inbound Marketing on Track

More businesses of all sizes are realizing now more than ever just how much value they can get from inbound marketing, whatever their niche may be. Inbound marketing is hard work though, especially for those tasked with dreaming up that holy grail of the discipline – fresh, original content and lots of it.

eBook: Great Content Creation Ideas To Keep your Inbound Marketing on TrackMany companies who try to implement an inbound marketing campaign do indeed come unstuck because they simply run out of things to say and share, encountering a nasty case of  marketer’s block, something that is very similar to writer’s block but given that there are so many channels of information they need to cover can be ten times worse.

There is no reason why that should have to happen to you though. In this e book we want to share with you tons of great content creation ideas that should help keep your inbound marketing campaign not only on track but gathering steam every day.

Great Content Creation Ideas: Blog Content

For a blog of any kind to be effective, whether it is designed for personal or business purposes it needs to be filled with great content and that content needs to be added on a regular basis.

Because of this, blogging can be one of the hardest tasks for any inbound marketer and often becomes so frustrating many a blogger has simply given up and abandoned their blog rather than go through the stress of trying to come up with new ideas every day. Here though are some ideas that should provide you with some inspiration:

Lists – People gravitate towards top ten lists, just ask David Letterman.

Image: Great Content Creation Ideas To Keep your Inbound Marketing on TrackWhatever your niche there are bound to be a great many you can come up with if you give it a little thought. The lists you do create need not be directed specifically to your product or service though, just be of value to those who may be interested in them. For example, if you are an accountant blogger something as simple as “Top Ten Smartphone Apps for Managing Money” would work very well on a day when those creative juices just aren’t flowing.

How Tos – How tos are another content type that people really enjoy reading and from a bloggers point of view they can provide all important evergreen content for their blog. The chances are usually high that if it is well written and presented a how to post that is year old can be as useful to a reader as it was the day it was posted.

Another great thing about how tos is they are great way to introduce multimedia into your blogs. Many people are visual learners and they respond better if they can actually see things being done. If a video or an infographic would help explain your lessons to those people then go ahead and add them, especially since by doing so you will be creating content that can be shared a great many other ways as well.

Top Tips For Using Online Video Marketing to Boost Your Bottom Line

The Case for Online Video Marketing

Lots of businesses both large and small are using text based online marketing tactics to boost the traffic to their websites, increase website conversions and for SEO purposes. Blogging, article creation and social media marketing are all indeed great marketing tools for businesses large and small but there is one marketing tool that can be hugely powerful that many companies are still overlooking – online video marketing.

eBook: Top Tips For Using Online Video Marketing to Boost Your Bottom LineThe case for online video marketing is a strong one. Thanks to the advent of easy to use, inexpensive but effective video cameras like the Flip and a growing number of free to use video editing softwares that do not require a huge technical knowledge, making a video is quick and easy. And according to Forrester Research optimized videos are 50 times more likely to gain a company an organic Google page one ranking than text based content, a pretty impressive statistic indeed.

In this report we are going to share with you our top tips for online video marketing success, demonstrating that video marketing is far easier than you might have ever expected.

Online Video Marketing Top Tips – Getting Started

Before you can begin marketing your video you actually have to make it! A good camera is going to be a must and there are a number of good ones on the market today that are great for recording high quality YouTube compatible videos with a minimum of technical experience. These include:

All of these cameras offer high quality video, they all have direct USB access and they all cost under $200. They all also come with their own editing software so that you can easily polish up your video once it is created. If you don’t like these softwares though there are a number of other free to use video editing softwares you can make use of that need no expert video creation knowledge to use but produce great results.

The next step is to decide what your video is going to be about and just what you want it to achieve. Some of the most popular and effective types of marketing video include:

  • Humorous, or viral videos
  • How to video or video tutorials
  • Talk show style interview videos
  • Product review videos

What kind of video you choose to produce will depend very much upon what it actually is you want your video to achieve for your business. Here are some of the common goals that businesses set for their videos and you can incorporate several of these into just a single video:

  • Drive new traffic to your company website
  • Increase the number of subscribers and fans for your social media accounts.
  • Get inbound links for your company website
  • Help build your company’s brand image
  • Offer educational content that adds value related to your business niche.

What a good online marketing video is not is a direct TV type ad for your business. The video has to be interesting enough that people want to watch it and perhaps even more importantly want to share it.

Great Google Chrome Add Ons for Content Creation and SEO

Gone are the days when Internet Explorer was the most used browser in the world. According to Statcounter.com, in September 2011 only 38% of desktop and laptop Internet users still used Internet Explorer. 25.53% use Firefox and rather impressively, for a browser that is only three years old, Google Chrome came in a close third with a 21.51% market share, up from 11.54% just 12 months earlier in September 2010.

There are a great many reasons that people, many of them former Firefox fans, have made the switch to Google Chrome. One of the reasons for many people is to gain access to the huge number of browser add ons that can be incorporated into Chrome in just a few seconds.

Although many of the same add ons are available to Firefox users, more and more independent developers of apps are choosing to showcase their work in the Google App Store.

eBook: Great Google Chrome Add Ons for Content Creation and SEOA great many of these apps and add ons can be very useful to those who are involved in content creation and SEO. Often you can find a Google Chrome add on that does the same thing (or more) than the expensive SEO and blogging software tools that are hawked all over the Internet.

This ebook was written to introduce you to some of the best and most useful of these apps and you should definitely read it before you spend another penny on expensive software you might not need:

Great Google Chrome Add Ons for Bloggers

As any serious business blogger can tell you, creating and maintaining a successful blog that will boost a company’s website traffic, improve its rankings in the SERPs and help promote the business’ brand – all things that a good blog should do – takes a lot more work than just writing a 500 word post on any old topic once a week. Here are just some of the great Google Chrome add ons that can help make your blogging efforts a lot easier and far more efficient:

Zemanta

Bloggers who have discovered Zemanta love it and for very good reason. Once you have installed Zemanta on your Google Chrome tool bar it is a little bit like having a blogging tutor and a research assistant reading what you are typing over your shoulder. As you write your post, Zemanta begins to offer you real time suggestions about content you could add – images, tags, relevant links and much more – that will enrich the post you are working on. These functions can literally save a blogger hours of research every week and the content that is suggested is all from respected and relevant sources.

For example, someone blogging about sports, a sporting equipment supplier perhaps, can use Zemanta to find links to the web pages of all the major sporting teams all over the world, individual athletes websites and social media accounts, articles and videos that are relevant to the topic they are currently working on as well as great images that are royalty free and can be used without any copyright infringement worries.

Zemanta also helps make designing the look of a blog post easier as well, with a number of great features including a drag and drop image editor that lets you put an image anywhere on the post without all the tedious insert maneuvers.

Zemanta is a great help when it comes to social sharing as it lets you share your new content across all your social media and bookmarking accounts with just a few clicks. And if your content is interesting and original, it will also be promoted to thousands of other Zemanta users.

Zemanta is not blog platform specific. It works with WordPress, Joomla, Typepad, Blogger, Moveable Type, Drupal, Tumblr and a number of other blogging platforms. And maybe the best thing about the Zemanta Google Chrome add on? Its free.

Jeremy Lin (New York Knicks) and the Power of Negative Personal Branding

He has scored the most points in the NBA since the ABA (American Basketball Association) and NBA’s merger back in 1976-1977.  Replicas of his No.17 are being sold like hotcakes in many places and his name is being chanted everywhere by basketball fans and ordinary people alike.  He was the one who started it all, who brought Linsanity to life.  He is none other of course than Jeremy Lin of the New York Knicks, dubbed as the most surprising story ever for the Knicks, the NBA and some say, the sporting world.

Born as Jeremy Shu-How Lin on the 23rd of August 1988, Jeremy Lin’s start in the NBA was not that favorable at all.  For starters, he was passed over during the NBA draft, was cut by two NBA teams in one preseason several months ago and was sent to the Developmental league.  It was as if he did not belong on the court and worse, he was subsequently ignored.  You can say that as far as personal branding is concerned, that of Jeremy Lin’s has been entirely negative before he got a chance to prove himself and become a star.

Jeremy Lin image

Copyright 2012 NBA Media Ventures, LLC | Turner Sports Interactive, Inc. All rights reserved.

Why is this so?  Well, first of all, he’s a graduate of Harvard and the Ivy League.  He is also of an Asian American descent, with his parents being Taiwanese .  You can say that Jeremy Lin just do not fit into any existing successful profile or stereotype in the NBA.  He’s also a devoted Christian and a lot of people have assumed that Lin’s personality and background simply do not fit the usual profile or stereotype that traditional NBA guards exude.  Needless to say, Jeremy Lin has gone through hard times – much of which has been due directly to the results of negative personal branding.

But to everyone’s surprise, he is currently the impetus for the chants for MVP at Madison Square Garden, has captivated the Twitter community by storm and is also the newest pride of the New York Knicks, the Big Apple, Asians, Ivy Leaguers and underdogs and supposed underachievers worldwide.

Jeremy Lin of the New York Knicks is, at present, the best example of how powerful personal branding is.  From being the ignored player who slept on the couch’s of his brother and teammate – without a guaranteed salary – to the rising NBA star that has even changed the history and possibly the significance and value of the National Basketball Association.   An underdog that is loved by everyone and a common man who has become the inspiration of many, Jeremy Lin has certainly proved that personal branding can be changed if you can persevere, continue to dream, aspire, and work hard to succeed.  Oh, and you need that one chance to shine too – though you can’t be shy about asking for that chance.

It cannot be denied that personal branding can be negative at times but at the end of the day, it all boils down to one’s personal belief in oneself and how a person perseveres to change his negative brand.  The New York Knicks’ newest pride – Jeremy Lin – might well serve as an inspiration to us all.
