Facebook Marketing Case Study: Barack Obama

Barack Obama, the current U.S. President, a Harvard Law School (and Columbia University) graduate, is one of the first Presidents to have successfully used social media for a presidential campaign. Born in Hawaii, he was a member of the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004 and a United States Senator from 2005 to 2008. He became the United States President via the hard fought,  arduous and exciting 2008 presidential campaign.

Will Smith (Willard Christopher Smith, Jr.) is a well-known actor, rapper and producer/director. He was named as the most powerful actor in Hollywood by Newsweek (2007). His fame began in the late 1980s as a rapper (The Fresh Prince), and in 1990, his acting career started when he starred in the TV series “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”. Since then, he has starred in many movies, most of them being certified Blockbusters such as  “Independence Day”, “Men in Black” 1 and 2, and “I, Robot”.

The largest car rental company in North America, Enterprise Rent-A-Car is a giant in its industry.  Started in 1957, this company is considered one of the most established rental car companies in the U.S.   The company is said to be responsible for the acquisition of 7% of all new automobiles sold in the U.S.

The Enterprise Car Rentals Facebook page (Enterprise Rent-A-Car) has 88,470 likes.  Enterprise doesn’t have a lot of ‘Likes’ at the moment but see here how they’re laying the foundation for the growth of their Facebook page and all the things they’re doing right – and, maybe a few places where they could improve.

The first ever Starbucks was opened on March of 1971 in Seattle, Washington.  It was founded by three partners – Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl, and Gordon Bowker.  There are currently 19,435 Starbucks stores in 58 countries.  Although it’s the world’s largest coffeehouse company, Starbucks isn’t just about coffee as they also have different beverages, baked goods, Starbucks merchandise and so much more in their stores.

The Starbucks Facebook fan page has 29,567,208 likes already.  Starbucks customers are devotees of the first order and even here on their Facebook page, Starbucks doesn’t disappoint.

iTunes, introduced eleven years ago (January 2001) by Apple Inc, has a huge significance for Apple consumers.  Aside from it being a media player program for your desktop, you can also use this to manage the contents on your iPod, iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.  iTunes is your gateway to the iTunes Store where you can browse and download music, videos, TV shows, games, apps and so much more.  This program is also used to connect with the App store where you can download application software.

The iTunes Facebook page has 21,312,172 likes.  As the Apple company itself is so good at marketing and promotions, you’ll see in this video how they apply that to their Facebook page.
