As the internet rises in popularity, people have become increasingly dependent on it for use in their daily lives. Just a decade ago, people would have had to search a variety of sources to get the information that they needed. Today, you can find absolutely anything online. It’s been found that nearly half of all internet users use search engines such as Google, Yahoo
and Bing daily to find anything from where the best hotdogs are, to what to do with a hairy bump on your bottom.
Since people trust the internet so much to find what they need, it’s only natural that businesses will try to make sure they are easily found during such searches. A study from AOL search query logs found that websites that get the first position in searches get nearly half of user clicks. So with a vast majority of internet users clicking through to highest positioned websites, businesses naturally compete for that coveted spot to get as much traffic as possible.
Search engine optimization (SEO) has since become a multi-million dollar industry. People are constantly trying to figure out the exact algorithm that search engines use to rank website results so as to work it to their own best advantage.
